MASA by Black Society Review: Dim Sum Made Modern that tastes as Good as it looks

2 February 2021

‘MASA’ is a Cantonese and Taiwanese lingo for ‘master’, and they are truly a master of their culinary craft. At first glance, the restaurant doesn’t look like a typical dim sum restaurant, but instead a Spanish establishment serving tapas. But don’t be fooled, this is an ideal joint for a dim sum fix!

If you are looking for a place for special get-togethers such as birthday celebrations, or for lunch, tea, and dinner, MASA by Black Society’s branches at Orchard Gateway and Great World City are your go-to spots.

A definite must-try is the Dim Sum Tasting Platter, which comes with six different bite-sized treats intricately arranged to showcase the restaurant’s wide range and culinary skills. Start with the savouries – the har gao squid ink is delightfully unique, while the goose filled with duck meat (of course) tastes as good as it looks.

Next, move on to the sweets - the little green apple is an in-house creation, while the classic custard bun oozes with golden lava in every bite. Don’t skip the silky-smooth Mui Choy Century Egg Porridge, served with generous ingredients that’ll fill you up heartily. Also order the Pan-fried Carrot Cake with XO sauce, where each mouthful is an explosion of sweet and salty flavours.

Wrap up your meal with desserts, MASA’s freshly baked egg tarts are a must! In between dishes, quench your thirst with the Orange Yuzu, or blended Chinese teas to clear your palate.
