Situated in Woodlands Swimming Complex, Citrus by the Pool is a Halal restaurant that prides itself in bringing people together, by bonding over delicious comfort food. Since its inception in 2013, the restaurant is a household name for not only residents of the North, but beyond. Located just 10 mins walk from Woodlands MRT, you’ll get to indulge on their best-selling dish, Fried Chicken & Waffles – chunks of crispy chicken served atop a fluffy waffle, served with butter drizzled with maple homemade Citrus syrup on the side.

If you’re a fan of burgers, you must try the BIG Boss Burger. This giant dish comprises of juicy double beef and mutton patty, with crispy fried onion, tomato, cucumber, lettuce, purple cabbage slaw smothered in satay sauce on toasted charcoal buns.

Although there are many options available, you must order the Rasa Istimewa Curry Fish Head. The Red Snapper fish is cooked perfectly in the fiery curry, resulting in delicate flesh that oozes with a tinge of sweetness from the fish’s natural flavour. The curry is served with an assortment of vegetables such as ladyfingers, eggplant and taupok that soaks up all the gravy goodness. Order a plate of fiery Black Pepper Crab if you’re a fan of spicy food. Although the location is a tad far from public transportation, it’s all worth it!

3. Tenderbest Makcik Tuckshop

Hailing from the same brand as Tenderfresh, where they serve familiar comfort food that is both delicious and budget-friendly. Located in an industrial area in Woodlands, be left in awe by the jazz music playing in the background, with fancy wooden chairs and tables. Look up, and you’ll see beautiful illustrations of some of their cheeky quotes that’ll tickle your funny bones.

Try their signature Crispy Fried Chicken and Roasted Chicken Leg that comes with yellow butter rice. If you’re a pasta lover, order their take on the local dish, Laksa Prawn Spaghetti, where Laksa-infused sauce is mixed with al dente pasta and fresh juicy prawns. Each bite will exude a familiar taste and pays homage to our favourite iconic local dish.

A dish that raises an eyebrow, is the Fried Chicken Caramel dessert – similar to an affogato, it’s constructed with a caramel sauce (that uses chicken stock and spices!), and a dollop of vanilla ice cream and crispy fried chicken skin over the top. Definitely, an interesting dessert to try, if you’d like something new and unique.

4. Taste Garden

Located about 10 mins walk from Khatib MRT, Taste Garden is nestled in ORTO, a recreational park located in the North of Singapore. Taste Garden is one of the 10 restaurants in ORTO, and it’s Halal! Come for their dinner buffet, and you’ll get to taste their signature satay (chicken or mutton) from their barbecue station – juicy and tender meat with the right amount of char.
