Tocha Bistro Review: Portugese Bistro Bar Serving Delicious Grubs and Drinks at Lavender

31 August 2020

Armed with a passion for quality food and warm hospitality, this is owner Tino Chew’s first venture into the restaurant business. Pronounced as Tor-shay, Tocha means torch and the restaurant aims at disrupting the bistro bar scene in Singapore. Located at Hotel Boss, at Jalan Sultan Road, they offer indoor and alfresco dining. Here you’ll find a range of European, Western and also fusion dishes.

Start with the Mushroom Soup ($5.80), which has a robust flavour because it uses three types of mushroom, which adds a layered texture to this starter and complements well with the garlic bread. Also, try their well-marinated spicy mid wings, that comes with a home-made sambal belachan on the side if you love that extra heat. Or order the Baked Scallops, cooked with three types of melted cheeses - mozzarella, cheddar, and parmesan.

For mains, don’t miss the Braised Lamb Shanks. There is little to no gamey aftertaste that might be familiar to lamb and mutton eaters. The dish is well-marinated as it is seasoned overnight, and has a fall-off-the-bone quality that you can even eat it with just a fork!

At Tocha Bistro, the steaks are high (pun intended)! Try the Tenderloin Steak, cooked to a medium-rare pink, served with addictive sea salt fries. Pair it with a glass of red wine, their signature Peng Wine’s Gala is highly recommended. The Iberico Pork is also a hit with the customers here! It is generously served with wedges, corn and spinach.
