10 Experiences You Cannot Miss in Bangkok, Thailand

7 January 2020

When it comes to short getaways from Singapore, Bangkok, with its mouthwatering street food and affordable shopping, is a shoo-in. Whether it’s your first time, or nth time to the City of Angels, these are the things you shouldn’t miss out on when you’re in Bangkok.

1. Temples
Immerse yourself in the heart of the culture in Bangkok by paying a visit to some of the more famous temples in the city. If it’s your first time, don’t miss out on a tour to the Grand Palace and its neighbour, Wat Pho (famous for being home to the Reclining Buddha). Then, make your way down the Chao Phraya River, where you can get off at several stops including the Grand Palace, Wat Arun (also known as the Temple of Dawn), and Asiatique.

2. Street food

From pad thai to basil chicken rice, noodles and grilled seafood, there’s lots to eat and sample on the streets! Just prepare your stomach, and change.

3. Night markets
Looking for some cool souvenirs to take home? Packed with a diverse range of goods – from apparel to snacks and entertainment – get ready to bargain your way to some incredible buys. We recommend: Rot Fai Market, JJ Green, and Rot Fai Market in Ratchada.

4. Shopping
And of course, what’s a trip to Bangkok without shopping? Visit malls like Platinum Mall, CentralWorld MBK and Terminal 21, you might literally shop till you drop ‘cause there’s just so much to see and do!

5. Weekend markets
Like night markets, weekend markets like Chatuchak Market and Artbox Bangkok offers a wide array of interesting knick knacks you may not find elsewhere. Plus, if you’re looking for your coconut ice cream fix and other desserts, the stalls there provide soothing respites.

6. Affordable accommodation
One of the things that make Bangkok a popular destination is its quality hotels at reasonable rates. For instance, the conveniently-located Hotel Clover Asoke, a boutique hotel, boasts views of the city from its gorgeous rooftop pool, uniquely-themed rooms, at reasonable fees!

7. Rooftop bars
When it comes to happy hour, there are no lack of options – whether you’re seeking a high-end bar, or one amidst the night markets.

8. Cafe hopping
While you’re busy trying street food, don’t forget to leave room for dessert and coffee, which you can find at any of the quaint, charming cafes in the city. From Karmakamet Secret World to Ekkamai, Fill in the Blank, (un)Fashion Vintage Cafe and After You Dessert Cafe, here’s a tip: don’t forget to leave without a photo too!

9. Khao San Road
Also known as the backpackers’ mecca, you’ll find cheap food, drinks, as well as quirky souvenirs on this bustling street.

10. Massage
When you’re done exploring the city, head to a massage parlour, where your body will thank you for that much-needed respite.
