21 December 2022

Doraemon fans can now catch the prized original drawings and sketches of Doraemon by the late Fujiko F Fujio at the National Museum of Singapore from 5 November 2022 to 5 February 2023.

This is the very first public showcase outside of Japan, after exhibitions in Tokyo, Takaoka, Nagoya, Osaka, Niigata, Sapporo, Kyoto, Fukushima, Okayama.

The one and only such drawing in the world

Original artworks by contemporary Japanese artists

The exhibition consists of 2 parts - the first part features artworks and creations by 28 leading contemporary Japanese artists and arts groups who were invited to design and create their own version of Doraemon based on their own memories of Doraemon. Artworks by two Singaporean artists are also exclusively presented as part of this showcase.

The second part of the exhibition showcases the original manga drawings by the creator of Doraemon, the late Fujiko F Fujio. Immerse yourself in Mr Fujiko's world through these original scribblings and drawings and discover the intricate details behind every of his creation.

The intricacies and attention to detail in Mr Fujiko's works can be observed here

There is even a reproduction of Mr Fujiko's work desk, where visitors are encouraged to interact and pose for pictures with!

Besides the two exhibitions, visitors can also look forward to a Doraemon cafe, where you can try dorayakis, a traditional red bean confection made by Japanese chefs who flew in specially for this exhibition.

Did you know, Doraemon's wish was once revealed to be "eating a mountain of dorayakis". Come on down and try Doraemon's favourite food for yourself!

Head to the second floor of the museum and you can even pose for a picture with the The Dokodemo Door, also known as The Anywhere Door, which Doraemon uses to move instantaneously between places.

Unlike The Dokodemo Door, this door can only move you between reality and your imaginationThat's not all. Doraemon fans can look forward to laying their hands on exclusive and original Doraemon merchandise, which have been specially brought in just for this exhibition. Look out for the Doraemon plushies, tote bag, jigsaw puzzles and mugs which are adorned with Doraemon and friends.
