How to Ensure You’ll Never Be Late In Your Life Again: 7 Ways to Correct Your Mistake

7 January 2020

Being punctual is generally a good habit to keep – whether in your professional or personal capacity.

1. Identify your patterns
If you’re always late by about the same amount of time, it might be cause you are impatient, hate waiting, and need to pack everything at once. If your timing varies, then you just need to better manage your time.

2. Identify causes
What keeps you from being on time? Are you overly optimistic (i.e. when it comes to securing transport, traffic and so on), opportunistic (i.e. someone who tries to cram as many things they can in a day), or simply absent minded (forgetting the time)?

3. Relearn to tell the time
Instead of telling yourself that getting from Point A to Point B will take just 10 minutes, always plan for an added 10 minutes, so you don’t get caught in a rush.

4. Plan to be early

Latecomers often plan to be on time without factoring in other causes. Plan to be at your meeting point 10 to 15 minutes earlier than the stipulated time.

5. Leave time for environmental factors
These include wearing high heels (it’s reasonable to expect that you’ll be slower walking in heels as opposed to rushing in flats, right?), traffic jams, train breakdowns, and more.

6. Plan your route
With apps like Google and Apple maps that tell you the estimated time you’ll need to get to your destination, there’s really no excuse to say that you had no idea you were going to take this long to get there.

7. Set an alarm
Now that you know the amount of time taken, set an alarm to remind yourself to either start preparing, or to leave the house, office, or from whatever appointment you’re currently at.
