Singapore Public Holidays 2025 - Long Weekend Guide

27 December 2024 by Grace Kho

It’s finally 2025, and this marks the start of an exciting new year filled with new dreams, goals, and aspirations! A new year also brings the refreshing renewal of public holidays in Singapore, especially with so many events taking place in the first half of the year.

With these public holidays, we can look forward to long weekends and plan for a trip with minimal leave taken. So, when is the best time to travel this year? Read on to find out the ideal times to take leave and explore the world!

January

1 January, Wednesday: New Year’s Day
29 January, Wednesday: Chinese New Year
30 January. Thursday: Chinese New Year

January is the perfect time to travel if you’re looking for a winter getaway! For those who aren’t celebrating Chinese New Year, it’s an ideal opportunity to travel to countries that don’t celebrate the holiday.

Proposed travel dates:
1 Leave, 5 Days Trip: 29 Jan to 2 Feb
6 Leaves, 12 Days Trip: 29 Jan to 9 Feb

Since most companies offer a half day off on 28 Jan, you might consider booking a flight that evening without using any additional leave!

February

Although there’s no public holiday this month, you can still rejoice because it’s a short month! If you’re in a relationship or married, don’t forget about Valentine’s Day and be sure to order your flowers early!

March

31 March, Monday: Hari Raya Puasa

Public holidays that fall on a Monday or Friday are the best! This gives you the perfect opportunity for a short 3D2N trip to Bintan, Batam, or JB. If you’d like a longer break or want to travel further to Bangkok, consider taking one day of leave on Friday! March is also an ideal time for travel, as the weather abroad is typically great, and you might even catch the cherry blossoms in full bloom in Japan!

Proposed travel dates:
1 Leave, 4 Days Trip: 28 Mar to 31 Mar

April

18 April, Friday: Good Friday

It’s another perfect month with a public holiday falling on a Friday, which means a long weekend! Take a break this month or go for a short getaway to recharge. Alternatively, if you're looking for an "almost month-long" holiday, overlapping the holidays could give you a break lasting nearly three weeks!

Proposed travel dates:
13 Leave, 23 Days Trip: 29 Mar to 20 Apr
9 Leave, 17 Days Trip: 18 Apr to 4 May

May

1 May, Thursday: Labour Day
12 May, Monday: Vesak Day

It’s the best season for long-haul travel! If you're afraid of the chilling cold, May is the perfect time to travel, as it’s neither too cold nor too hot. Whether you’re heading to nearby countries like South Korea or further destinations like Europe, overlapping the two public holidays in May allows you to maximise your travel without taking too many leaves. Also, don’t forget to pamper your mom on Mother’s Day, 11 May—consider taking her on a short weekend trip to brighten her week!

Proposed travel dates:
6 Leave, 12 Days Trip: 1 May to 12 May
1 Leave, 4 Days Trip: 1 May to 4 May

June

7 June, Saturday: Hari Raya Haji
In-lieu or Monday off

Make the most of the last public holiday of the first half of the year before we enter the second half of 2025, which sadly brings fewer public holidays. Of course, June still offers a public holiday on a weekend. With Hari Raya Haji falling on a Saturday, you can either take the off day on another day of the year or, depending on your company's policy, enjoy the holiday on Monday. Either way, it gives you more reason to relax or plan another getaway! Also, don’t forget to celebrate all the fathers in the house on Father’s Day, 15 June! Even though it’s not a public holiday, we should still treat them to a nice meal!

July

Start July strong and refreshed and get ready to conquer the second half of the year. Whether you’re chasing sales or hitting KPIs, July is the perfect time to work hard after enjoying a restful first half of the year! Moreover, it’s too hot to travel in July, unless you’re heading down south to Australia. Nonetheless, it’s a great month to recharge and re-strategise for making the most of the second half of 2025.

August

9 August, Saturday: National Day
In-lieu or Monday off

Similar to Hari Raya Haji, you can choose to take the National Day leave at any day of the year if you work a 5-day workweek. Our recommendation is to take it as soon as possible, as it has been two months since the last public holiday, and it will be over two months before the next one! To stay refreshed and avoid burnout, we highly recommend taking this leave on the following Monday, 11 August.

September

If you have any leftover leave or off-in-lieu to claim, September is the perfect month to use it before the year ends! With more than a month more to the next holiday in October, you might start feeling the need for a trip, and September is ideal for a holiday with its cool weather temperatures.

October

20 October, Monday: Deepavali

After more than two months without a public holiday, celebrate the Festival of Lights on a Monday with your loved ones! For those who don’t celebrate Deepavali, enjoy the long weekend or go on a short retreat before returning to work for another two months until Christmas. This season, instead of Bangkok or Bali, consider a short 4D3N getaway to Guangzhou, China, or Taipei to enjoy slightly cooler temperatures!

Proposed travel dates:
1 Leave, 4 Days Trip: 17 Oct to 20 Oct

November

Although November doesn't bring many events, the end of the year is always a joyous season. Get your mobile phones ready to snag amazing vouchers and deals as you shop your way through the month, starting from 11 November!

December

25 December, Thursday: Christmas Day

The season of gift-giving is here, and with children on school holidays, a trip during this period is a must! Take advantage of the back-to-back weeks of Christmas and New Year by bringing your little ones on a winter getaway to experience what it's like to celebrate this festive season abroad!

Proposed travel dates:
7 Leaves, 13 Days Trip: 20 Dec to 1 Jan

We hope 2025 will be a year filled with fun and memorable moments! Remember to take plenty of time for your family and yourself. As you recharge, you'll be ready to hit the ground running! Happy New Year, everyone and may your 2025 be a better year!
