Get ready and buckle up as we introduce you to one of the must-try bucket list items – Canyoneering!
Without breaking the bank, this activity is both daunting yet enjoyable!
What is Canyoneering?
To begin, Canyoneering is not for the faint-hearted. It is an activity that allows people to explore the canyons, hence the name, canyoneering! Considered an extreme sport for enthusiasts to challenge themselves, canyoneering uses a range of techniques including hiking, climbing, sliding, jumping and more!
Depending on the type of trenches, this activity requires safety equipment such as life vests, helmets, ropes, and sometimes rafts. Nowadays, canyoneering has become a popular tourist activity, and you don’t necessarily need extensive training before exploring, as many beginner-friendly guided tours are available. Be prepared to confront some of your fears, such as heights and deep water. Despite this, canyoneering is one of the most thrilling experiences you can have while travelling in Cebu, Philippines!
Where to Canyoneer?
Many countries offer stunning landscapes for canyoneering, including the United States with its famous Grand Canyon and Japan with its nature-rich areas like Hokkaido and Minakami. However, if you're looking for a destination closer to home where you can enjoy beginner-friendly canyoneering, Cebu in the Philippines is the perfect choice!
Many of these adventures can be found on Klook and most canyoneering expeditions only take half a day!

The most popular canyoneering route in Cebu is at Kawasan Falls. You can book this private tour on Klook, and we recommend going with a larger group for a more affordable rate. Start your adventure by experiencing the thrill of a long zipline ride over the forested area of Kawasan Falls. Once you’ve crossed, your hike begins!
Through a terrain of hikes, climbs, and scrambling, you will reach the riverbed where you can form a chain float with your friends and let the guide pull your team through the waters. After a short, relaxing float, you can challenge one another to jump off cliffs into the water, starting from a low 4 meters and going all the way up to 10 meters! This isn’t for the faint-hearted, so if you’re afraid of heights, it’s time to set aside your fears and challenge yourself to overcome them. However, if jumping isn't for you, don’t worry, you can still enjoy the adventure by sliding down slippery rocks or using a rope to jump!
All in all, Canyoneering is a short adventure you can and should try when you visit Cebu! Aside from this, you can also swim with whale sharks and sardines in Cebu! An adventure we highly recommend.
Just a tip: schedule canyoneering on the last few days of your trip, after you've completed your saltwater activities, as you may end up with some cuts and bruises from the tour. Nonetheless, canyoneering is an adventure you should try at least once in your lifetime! You can find all these exciting adventures on Klook!
