8 Things to Ask From Hotels to Make Your Stay a Better One

8 January 2020

Make your dollar work a little harder for you by asking for these unexpected items!

Short of asking for a room upgrade, there are certain things hotels can do to make your stay a more comfortable one without spending a single cent.

1. Ask for late check out

Unless you’re travelling with a tour group or are catching an early flight out the next day, it won’t hurt to ask for a few hours more without charge.

2. Airport services

Check and see if your hotel offers complimentary airport services or shuttles, so you can save on your transport fees to and from the airport.

3. Rooms with a view

If you’re staying in a hotel by the beach or somewhere in the city, ask if you can get a room that overlooks the best view, or one on the higher floors, so you can enjoy a clear view of your surroundings.

4. The right rooms matter

Before you think all rooms are made equal, here’s a tip: try not to get those located near the lifts or stairwell, especially if there is hardly any space between the nearest room and the lift. You’ll be kept awake all night with the resulting noise.

5. Hotel loans

Bicycles, golf buggies, umbrellas and more… there are certain amenities that are available for loan, especially in resorts. All you have to do, is ask.

6. Rectify the issue

If there’s something unsatisfactory about your room or your stay, report it immediately. Don’t suffer in silence, and then leave a nasty review on a travel site after. What would be the point anyway?

7. Complimentary toiletries

Most if not all hotels should be able to provide you with a basic kit that includes a toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving kit and shower essentials. At the end of your trip, you can even reuse this on your flight, especially if you’re travelling long-haul.

8. Celebratory perks

If you’re celebrating a birthday, honeymoon, anniversary or any other special occasion, make it known to the staff while you’re making your booking, or to the front desk. They should be able to arrange for something special – a cake, petals on the bed or complimentary wine might be possible. All you have to do, is just ask.
