Central Hong Kong Café review: Authentic Hong Kong street food that caters for all

5 June 2020

Savour the essence of Hong Kong’s street food culture when you head to any of Central Hong Kong Café’s outlets at Northpoint City, Jurong Point, Star Vista, Wheelock Place, and Vivo City. Experience Hong Kong’s ubiquitous cha chaan tengs (a type of restaurant commonly found in Hong Kong and Macau), in the heart of Singapore. The restaurants interior are decorated as old coffee shops, where you’ll also see wallpapers that shows Hong Kong’s bustling Central district and key attractions such as Victoria Peak and Tsim Sha Tsui.

On the menu, you’ll find an array of familiar staples such as Beef Brisket Noodles, Wanton Noodles, Luncheon Meat Instant Noodles, Rice Rolls and Egg Tarts. Majority of the dishes at Central Hong Kong cafes are wallet-friendly, most of them are priced at less than $10.

The café’s Braised Beef Brisket Noodles took us back to the streets with its succulent and generous chunks of beef served in noodle soup. We also had Fried Lamian with a generous serving of seafood, each bite had a distinctive wok hei flavor, and had us wiping the plate spotless. For sharing, do order the Curry Fish Balls - coated in spicy and thick curry gravy, every mouthful will remind you of the time you spent walking down Mong Kok or Tsim Sha Tsui on the hunt for street food.

If you've more room in your belly, you’ll want to tuck into its Hong Kong Chicken Curry on Rice – curry-coated chicken fillets draped over aromatic white rice, and fluffy chee cheong fun (Hong Kong style rice rolls).

With all the wallet-friendly dishes on the menu, Central Hong Kong Café is where you should dine at for no-frills Hong Kong fare that is worth every penny.
