Common Chefs review: Soul food that's perfect for your weekend brunch fix

Nestled in the heartlands of Sembawang, opposite Sembawang Shopping Centre, Common Chefs is a homey café that serves an array of comfort food from pasta to burgers and juicy steaks. The interior of the café exudes a cosy décor that’s not only perfect for weekend brunches but suitable for a meal at any time of the day.

For starters, order the Truffle Tater Tots served with aromatic truffle oil and garnished with a generous portion of cheese. You’ll be munching these treats none stop for sure! Moving onto mains, a must-try is a dish called Soul Food - a clever combination of sweet and savoury in the form of a chicken and waffles that are served with syrup and butter, just like how you’d have them for breakfast!

If you have plenty of room in your belly, do try the Rich Man Burger – a patty made from diced Chorizo blanketed over with velvety scrambled eggs and truffle mayo. For cheese lovers, rejoice! This dish comes with a side of melted cheese sauce, so you can pour it all over to your heart’s content. Do note that this burger is only available during the weekend, it’s elusive but worth the wait!

Satiate yourself with another cheesy dish, Shepherd’s Pie - don’t judge this dish by the decent portion size, each bite is rich with flavour and you’ll be savouring every moment. And if you’re a fan of pasta, don’t miss Common Chef’s Pasta Marinara, which is cooked al dente in a home-made tomato sauce, topped with fresh juicy prawns.
